Students from partner schools who visited our town, Komotini in April 2023 had the chance to enjoy all the important sites of the town and get familiarized with the cultural heritage of Greece by playing a digital scavenger hunt game which students of Geniko Lykeio Iasmou prepared for the mobility.

On Wednesday , 23 of June 2021, the kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+KA227 project “Culture heritage and Gamification in Education” (CultGamEdu) took place online aiming to take the first step towards achieving its goals, review the partners’ tasks and schedule the first LTTA due to Covid 19 restrictions  in October 2021.

Stages of the education system

Compulsory education lasts 11 years and extends from the ages of 4 to 15.  The stages of the Greek education are mainly 3:

1) Primary education

Primary education includes pre-primary and primary schools.

Nipiagogeio

Nipiagogeio (pre-primary school) in Greece has become compulsory for all 4-year-old children, since school year 2018/19.  School year 2020/21 foresees the integration of the two-year compulsory pre-primary school in the few remaining municipalities.

Infant centres (vrefikoi stathmoi), infant/child centres (vrefonipiakoi stathmoi) and child centres (paidikoi stathmoi) represent early childhood care.  They are run under the remit of the municipal authorities.  They cater for children between the ages of 2 months and up to the age of the beginning of compulsory education.

Geniko Lykeio Iasmou (General Upper Secondary School of Iasmos) is situated in Iasmos, a small town 23 km west of Komotini, in East Macedonia and Thrace region. It is a public Upper Secondary General School. It has about 115 pupils and 17 staff/teachers. A huge percentage of our students belongs to Muslim minority. Some of them have low social and economical profile. Also, there is a percentage of 3% of pupils with special needs. All our students are able to communicate in English. Our school offers general secondary education. We try to adjust our school to rapid financial, cultural and technological changes and to add European added value.

Democritus University of Thrace (D.U.Th.) was foundedwith the legislative decree no. 37 in July 27th 1973 and started to run in the academic year 1974-1975 with the admission of its first students to the Department of Civil Engineering in Xanthi and the Department of Law in Komotini. It was named ‘Democritus’ in honor of the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus, whose origin was from the town of Abdera in the Prefecture of Xanthi. The administrative seat of the University resides in the city of Komotini, the capital city of the Administrative Region of East Macedonia & Thrace while administrative services are also provided in all four cities where the university expands.

E.DRAS.E (Association for educational activities, Etaireia Draseon Epimorfosis in Greek) is a private, non-profit association that provides training and projects at national and international level. The Board consists of seven people and the organisation has 150 members and at least 10 partners supporting its activities. E.DRAS.E has as main objective is to promote the Physics, Social Sciences and New Technologies in Greece and Europe through lectures, seminars, courses and the production of educational material.

I.CO.N (Inclusion in COmmuNity), is a Greek non-profit educational organisation in Rodos that offers a broad spectrum of educational and social activities.

ICON Greece was initiated as an informal group of educators and students aiming to enhance inclusion in the school community –for students with special skills, different cultural backgrounds or belonging to vulnerable groups as Roma, foreign, repatriate, refugee. ICON Greece started by implementing volunteer activities and educational projects at Secondary Schools in Rodos at the context of extra curricular activities such as Environment, Culture, Health Promotion, Creative Assignments, Social Inclusion, Skills Development, Social and Emotional Learning and Career Guidance.
